Well clearly the lady that I spoke to at the Embassy didn't know what she was talking about. I received my interview date (March 28th 2006), in the mail yesterday. The trouble is that, based on what the lady told me, we have already changed our plans. By this, I mean we decided that, as we thought we would have to wait until May to even get an interview date, I should book a flight out there at the end of the month for a visit. I also spoke to my employers about delaying my leaving date (luckily they were ok with that). Given that I really can't keep messing my employers around, and I have already paid for my flight, we decided to just leave things as they are. I will go out there permanently in early May. These are our plans;
- Feb 28 - Fly out to LA and spend 2 weeks out there (including my birthday)
- March 14 - Return to the UK to work out my notice, have my visa interview at the US Embassy in London and sort out a ton of other minor issues.
- March 28 - Visa Interview. My visa should be sent to me, by courier, within 24 hours. From that point, I have 6 months to enter the US.
- Early May- Fly out to Los Angeles!
I was initially really pissed off that we had been given the wrong information and changed our plans to suit this. Now I am just really glad we have finally got some fairly concrete timescales - rather than just guessing. It's nice to be able to plan properly, whereas before we were just planning based on rough estimates, which was pretty crappy.
